Bella Hoare | A Different Green

Painting of a woman in green.

At gallery@oxo, Oxo Tower Wharf, Bella Hoare’s solo exhibition 'A Different Green' showcases paintings that celebrate femininity and its relationship with the natural world.

The paintings embrace the potential for human intimacy with the natural world, while also elevating the portraits to draw out a sense of the sacred. Across the exhibition, details of sitters’ appearances are transposed into new, unexpected colour palettes. Green predominates, alongside pinks, blues and browns, drawing on the hues of the more than human world.

Bella Hoare builds up layers of pigment in order to achieve highly textured results. The surfaces are almost geological, containing realms of past history and inviting viewers to parse the images with a visual reverse archeology.
