The National Brain Appeal’s fundraising art exhibition, A Letter in Mind, returns to gallery@oxo for a fifth year, showing artworks created on envelopes and sold anonymously.
This year’s theme is ‘A Way With Colour’ exhibiting a kaleidoscopic response from artists, illustrators, designers and creatives. Look out for some well-known names.
The study of colour has stimulated the imaginations of both artists and scientists for centuries, from its cultural connotations to how we perceive it. Colour enriches everything in our environment, yet our relationship to certain colours is intensely personal. The artwork envelopes will all be priced at £85 each and sold anonymously at the exhibition at gallery@oxo, raising vital funds for The National Brain Appeal – from 27 September to 30 September 2018. The works will remain anonymous until they are sold.
This year’s exhibition comprises over 380 original envelope artworks. These include beautiful, moving and thought-provoking pieces from the international art and design world. Acclaimed British sculptor Antony Gormley has donated a special artwork to be sold alongside the anonymous A Letter in Mind envelope artworks, via silent auction. A host of other well-known artists have created new works including former BP Portrait Award winner Ishbel Myerscough, Royal Academy Summer Exhibition exhibitor Frank Kiely, designers Morag Myerscough and Luke Morgan; award-winning political cartoonist, author and illustrator Chris Riddell, illustrators Tim Hopwood, Polly Dunbar and Bethan Woollvin; animator Lizzie Hobbs; Royal West of England Academy and Threadneedle Prize exhibitors Gill Rocca and Orlanda Broom; artist, curator and magazine editor Harry Pye; musician, artist and former member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds James Johnston; charity headliners Kevin Eldon, Sophie Thompson and Phyllida Law, actors Stephen Campbell Moore and Lalla Ward; and award winning architects Laurie Chetwood and Andrew Grant as well as 2017 RIBA Stirling Prize Shortlisted architect Amin Taha.
