In Kony’s Shadow

The memory of a small but fanatical rebel group still casts a long shadow across the war-ravaged communities of northern Uganda. Long after it was driven out, many people still live in terror at the very mention of its name.

Explore photographs, films and personal accounts of those who survived the violence of Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army in northern Uganda. – from children forced to become soldiers to civilians caught up in the conflict.

Hear how Norman, a former child soldier who was abducted at the age of 12, struggled to hold on to his humanity during the two years he served with the rebels.

Find out how his parents coped with the return of their son – now a trained killer, and read personal testimonies from those who were terrorised by this small but brutal army.

Symposium: A Banquet of Korean Contemporary Art

In its seventh year the exhibition Sasapari 4482  is to create a platform where artists can exchange ideas and discuss their experience of voluntary diaspora through their work.

As the title suggests, the audience are invited to enjoy each work as if they are at a banquet. 4482 symbolizes the collaboration of two countries the United Kingdom and Korea, 44 and 82 are the international dialling codes of the UK and Korea. The word sasapari is Korean and stands for Sa=4, sa=4, par=8 and i=2.

Sasapari has become the largest Korean contemporary art exhibition in the UK. This exhibition has now become a significant cultural movement, one of contemporary Korean artists delivering the spirit of ‘Yuhakseng ’ to a wider British and European audience. Yuhakseng is a Korean word which means student studying abroad. This is mirrored in the curatorial process, which stays true to Korean cultural identity by closely involving all of the fifty three artists.

With its ever-changing members, year upon year this show is handing over opportunities to new talent and recent graduates. 4482 strives to be a consistent art movement amongst young Korean artists in the UK, building a foundation for future Yuhakseng generations and bringing fresh vibrancy to London’s art scene.

Heritage of Care

The Heritage of Care: Hospice Volunteering in the UK is an exhibition exploring the legacy of volunteers to hospice care in the UK today. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey of experiences through photography, oral histories and archival material, and allows them to experience the impact of volunteering.

Visitors are invited to experience the same task that the Heritage of Care volunteers undertook by digging through archive boxes, looking at old photographs, and reading documents – enabling them to reflect on the development of volunteering in hospice care.

The exhibition aims to show that volunteering is for everyone – there are no special skills needed, just compassion. It highlights the importance of oral histories and uses the personal testimonies of hospice volunteers to bring the past to life.
