Oxo Tower Wharf 2015 event highlights
As it’s the time of year for reflection we thought it only appropriate to take a moment to look back on our exhibition and event highlights from 2015 at Oxo Tower Wharf.
The year started with the frights and delights of Phillip Pullman’s Grimm Tales, brought to life in Bargehouse. Over 23,000 fairytale fanatics experienced an immersive journey through a totally transformed Bargehouse.
Art with a cause
gallery@oxo has seen a strong programme of issues based exhibitions over the year. Kicked off in January by Sightsavers’ Framing Perceptions, we’ve hosted Brandon Trust, One Less Gun and CARE International as well as welcoming back The National Brain Appeal who will be returning with A Letter in Mind for the third time at Oxo Tower Wharf in 2016.
Jamaica Hidden Histories took residency in gallery@oxo between March and May, enlightening 26,600 visitors on the cultural and historical links between Britain and Jamaica. The free event which also featured a programme of artist talks, screenings and craft workshops, was a huge success receiving coverage in Time Out, The Guardian and The Times.
2015 saw Oxo Tower Wharf’s graduate season christened as New Creatives as universities and art schools took over the spaces from May to July. We brought back our programme’s firm favourites including Brunel University and Rose Bruford, as well as introducing budding designers from Mackintosh School of Architecture and Northbrook College. We’re limbering up for an even bigger and better New Creatives 2016 so keep your eyes peeled for the full programme reveal.
London Design Festival
September was an exciting month for Oxo Tower Wharf as we joined forces with other Bankside and South Bank design aficionados to form London Design Festival’s hottest new design district (and the first this side of the river), Bankside Design District. Over two weeks we hosted University of the Creative Arts, Designersblock, Royal College of Art’s Service Design, African & African-Caribbean Design Diaspora, Beatrice Perry London and Institute of Imagination across Bargehouse, gallery@oxo, G11, Courtyard and Platform. Many of the design studios based at Oxo Tower Wharf hosted workshops, talks and open studios including Electrobloom’s Design for 3D Printing and a Behind the Scenes special from Bodo Sperlein. London Design Festival 2015 was a success on all fronts for Oxo Tower Wharf and we’ve got something special up our sleeve for 2016… watch this space.
October art fairs
The rest of autumn featured a stellar line up of art fairs in October and a charity focused programme through November rounded off by the fantastic Freedom from Torture art auction which raised a whopping £110,000 to support the treatment and rehabilitation of survivors of torture by auctioning off pieces donated by Anthony Gormley, Marc Quinn, Edmund de Waal and many more.
A dazzling end to the year
We were delighted to bring Dazzle back to gallery@oxo for their third annual contemporary jewellery selling exhibition. They’ll be showcasing this year’s collection through until January so there’s still time to snap up something sparkly.
After such an exciting year of events across Oxo Tower Wharf, we’re looking forward to what 2016 will bring.
Thank you to all of our wonderful exhibitors and to everyone who visited in 2015 – see you next year.Return
